Is Squarespace good for SEO?

What Squarespace provides for search visibility, what still needs deliberate work and when platform limitations genuinely matter.

Published 3 September 2026 · Updated 3 September 2026

Squarespace can support an effective SEO strategy. It provides secure hosting, responsive templates, sitemaps and controls for page titles, descriptions, URLs and image alternative text. Those foundations do not create visibility without useful pages, clear relationships and credible evidence.

Give every indexable page a clear role

A service page should answer who the service helps, what problem it solves and why the business can be trusted. Avoid near-duplicate pages created for small wording or location variations. Fewer strong pages are easier for visitors and search systems to understand.

Use a logical heading and navigation structure

One descriptive H1 should introduce the page, followed by meaningful H2 and H3 sections. Navigation and internal links should connect services, projects and relevant guidance rather than leave articles isolated in an archive.

Write metadata for people

Page titles help distinguish search results; descriptions can explain why the page is useful. They should be accurate and specific rather than lists of repeated keywords. Changing metadata cannot rescue a page that lacks helpful content.

Control images and third-party scripts

Large photography, several fonts and embedded marketing tools can slow a visually simple page. Use appropriate image dimensions, remove integrations that no longer create value and test important pages on real mobile connections.

Preserve URLs during redesigns

If a page address changes, redirect the old URL to its closest useful replacement. Before migrating platforms, inventory pages that receive traffic or links and retain their information. A fresh design should not casually discard established visibility.

Diagnose before migrating for SEO

Weak service copy, little authority and poor internal linking are more common constraints than the Squarespace platform itself. Move only when a specific technical or publishing requirement creates enough business value to justify the risk.
